The 1993 Tokaji Aszu 5-Puttonyos is a blend of 75% Furmint and 25% Harslevelu that was aged in 220-liter barrels for 24 months

Yet for all of the intensity and power this remains impeccably wellbalanced on the hugely long and saline-infused finale

The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot and Malvasia Nera

Firm reduction masks the fruit though there is excellent freshness and vibrancy to the dense

five-spice powder and lavender pastille flavors given lift and spine by a core of juicy acidity

While the aromatic profile is similar, this doesnt offer quite the same level of aromatic refinement as the Guettes but its even more complex. The rich, powerful and opulent big bodied flavors possess a taut muscularity and seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that relegate the otherwise very firm tannic spine to the background. This is not an elegant Savigny but it will live for years. (91 94) 2021+
